kidnapped by ransom-seekers in Nigeria?
There is still no news about the possibility of rescuing the Sri Lankan Engineer, Mr. D.A. Karunadasa (68) who was kidnapped while serving at a private construction Company in Nigeria.
It is reported that the ransom demanded is about 50 crores in Sri Lankan currency and that this money has been demanded from the Italian Company for which he was attached to. Whatever it is, the amount of money has not been officially announced.
The said Sri Lankan has served at Borini Prono, an Italian construction Company in Nigeria. This Sri Lankan has been kidnapped some days ago at the Ondo and Kogi Province border. At the moment he was abducted, the person who worked as the Sri Lankan's driver by the name of Britrus Dada too has sustained injuries during the attack by the ransom-seekers.
D.A. Karunadasa a resident of Minuwangoda, Wigada area is a father of one child. Mr. Karunadasa who was a graduate of the University of Peradeniya and had worked for a period of 40 years in Nigeria after securing his degree in Engineering. During that period after coming to Sri Lanka and getting married had lived at a house of a sister of his wife in Veyangoda. They have a daughter aged 25. He had lived with the wife and daughter for some time in Nigeria and had returned to Sri Lanka for his daughter's further studies and had admitted her to the Malabe Medical College. Karunadasa's father says that the former gets leave for about 3 weeks an year and that during such a period he would come to his motherland. The father had said in tears that the kidnapped Sri Lankan is among the living and Mr. Karunadasa who was under the custody of the kidnappers had even spoken over the telephone yesterday to the wife and daughter who are in Sri Lanka.
The consulate office or the said Company has so far not mentioned as to what action would be taken in respect of rescuing Mr. Karunadasa.
