The tenure of the Parliament to be reduced to 05 years

The President Maithripala Sirisena had quipped that after the 20th amendment to the constitution in

parliament is passed the tenure of the parliament is to be reduced from six years to five years.

The President had also emphasised that the term of the President in terms of the 19th amendment of the constitution to the parliament is usually six years. He had reiterated that the lowering of the tenure of a President from six years to five years was made at his own discretion and he had not been forced or advised by any party leader or legal advisors and experts to make the change.
