Lakmal who is alleged to have murdered President Maithripala Sirisena's younger brother Weli Raju last week

is still confined to remand and matters concerning the reasons for committing the murder is still under investigation. After suspect and garage owner Lakmal having surrendered to police, initially had said that Weli Raju assaulted his father and mother. However it was revealed on police inquiries that that statement made by him is baseless. Police say that what had taken place was only an exchange of words or argument and not an assault.

In the process the parents of the suspect have left their house at Hathare Ela, New Town by now. The police have adopted strict safety measures on the house concerned. At the time the suspect  garage owner used an axe on Priyantha Sirisena, police have uncovered news that there had been two other individuals who had come there on motor cycles  and were present there. The police hope to interrogate them and further investigations are being carried out to find if this murder had been a planned conspiracy.
