Bank branch opened in Seyshells for political reasons!
Only 64 Sri Lankans in bank!
Bank of Ceylon General Manager interdicted!
Bank of Ceylon General Manager Mr. D.M. Gunasekera's duties have been terminated. Without authority of the Central Bank of Ceylon he had opened up a Bank of Ceylon branch at Seyshell Islands and he had sent groups there for administration-training for which the General Manager has been accused during the past regime. Further, since he had helped big shots in the past government in illicit monetary transactions, the Ministry of Finance had enforced this prohibition with the objective of facilitating investigation matters in this connection.
Finance Ministry investigations have revealed that a State bank had established a branch of Bank of Ceylon in the Seychells where only a small number of 64 Sri Lankans were found in the year 2011, thus ignoring rules and regulations of the Central Bank of Ceylon with the intention of operating clandestine transactions.
Mr. P.J. Jayasingha, Deputy General Manager has been appointed as Acting General Manager of Bank of Ceylon. This decision has been taken as investigations are being conducted over information that deposits have been deviated to other countries to be deposited on a void basis across banks in the Seychells related to transactions of ex-President.
A question has cropped up as to why a bank branch was necessary for a small group of people that comprised of just 64 who were engaged in consular activities and other activities in Seychells Islands. A team of representatives of the Ministry of Finance are expected to travel to the Seychells within the next two days in order to investigate the national wealth that flowed to the Seychells during the last government. On this visit an investigation is expected to be conducted on illicit transactions operated by certain politicians and officers during the past few years across financial institutions in Seychells. News has been received that because of the liberal tax system existent in the Seychells, certain parties have made use of such a system to transfer their assets to other countries across financial institutions in that country. The Central Bank has also uncovered information about politicians who had taken billions of dollars of wealth belonging to this country to Saint Martins, Hong Kong and Macau Islands apart from the Seychells and such information is to be exposed shortly.
