19th Amendment cannot be passed only in parliament ....
referendum should be sought for some clauses
Speaker announces decision of Supreme Court
The decision regarding the petition presented to Supreme Courts some days back regarding the 19th Amendment was forwarded to the Speaker after which it was announced today in parliament by the Speaker. As such, the Speaker has mentioned that if the 19th Amendment is to be put into motion, the Supreme Courts have informed that it is necessary to obtain a 2/3rd majority in parliament and a referendum should be called for. Under these circumstances there is a risk that the constitutional Amendment which the present government promised for the masses would turn out to be a lengthy procedure and it would be a difficult task.
Whatever it is, when the Speaker announced that certain clauses are complicated and that a referendum is warranted, the Prime Minister expressing his response has said that the clauses which created a problem calling for a referendum will be removed.
When the parliament convened this afternoon at about 10, it was arrived at a decision that a meeting of Party leaders to discuss this issue would take place at 3 in the afternoon.
