The rumour that I am going to ask for the vote is true - Kamal confirms

Sometime during the past few days there was a rumour that film star Kamal Addraarachchi was preparing to contest from the UNP for the forthcoming General
Election and is thus hoping to enter parliament. It has now been confirmed by Kamal. He has confirmed that if a proper proposal is presented to him with the objective of strengthening Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesingha and the United National Party for the next General Election, he had confirmed that he would come forward for the General Election. Kamal Addaraarachchi has told the Asian Mirror that that in the beginning though he did not have an objective of engaging in politics, now he has developed such a necessity and that he has also been pushed towards it. He had further said that he does not aspire for a specific seat or popular seat for that purpose but that it is possible for him to gain access to a seat which has been identified by the UNP as less popular or weak and that he is prepared to face such a challenge.

Kamal who expressed further ideas in this connection said, "There are many coming into politics adorning themselves with the label 'for the welfare of the masses'. I also maintained the standpoint 'why should artistes engage in politics'. Without falling into a damned level through mega tele-dramas I therefore lived a moderate existence. I gave my contribution only for something good. My age is now 53. I came into the Arts when I was 18. I am in the field for 35 years. Within this political environment there is no opportunity for our field. There's no room to do something good. There's too many obstacles. There's too much political interference. To get victory over this ... we have to fight. Because of politics the artiste cannot live within the field of Arts .... has to live in frustration ...  keep on sighing.

Because politics has not been properly managed, the entire society as well as politicians have faced regression. Only a handful of those who are really into politics or who does something for the public in a practical way could be found in Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. The former President wished for my birthday every year. If he took proper use of me, he would be in his seat even today. I am getting into politics not to become a spade for a Party or for politicians. It is with the motive of discarding the fences that have been erected by politics across the Arts for the masses. My aspiration is to make a change in the thinking pattern of the public in a way that is required for the development of the country and for 'yahapalanaya".
