Prasanna writes to Anura laying emphasis on supporters of Mahinda:

The Chief Minister of the western provincial council Prasanna Ranatunga has written a letter to the

General Secretary of the SLFP Anura Priyadharshana Yapa on the present political crisis that has arisen within the party.

He had said that the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa although was defeated polled over 58 lakhs of votes from his staunch supporters. He has emphasised that although he lost there are enough supporters who still love him from their hearts. The motive of all supporters is to unite, flock together in order to defeat the common opponent and enemy the UNP. These ardent supporters are prepared to shed sweat, tears and blood in their struggle and endeavour in achieving the goal of defeating the common enemy.

He had stated in the letter very boldly that he had attended the inaugural meeting organised with the theme ‘To make Mahinda the Prime Minister’ at Nugegoda, with a clear conscience. However no one could place barriers around one’s conscience. In complete contrast the central committee of the SLFP, had taken a firm decision not conducive to other members and supporters of the SLFP. It was a barrier prohibiting members of the people in participating in meetings organised by other parties without the approval of the central committee. This barrier thus imposed had caused an injustice to all Members of the party and supporters as well.It should not be forgotten that former president Mahinda Rajapaksa had won the faith of many supporters and their sole intentions are to make Mahinda the prime minister in the next election. In this context it should be understood that all faithful supporters of the party had attended this inaugural meeting willingly with a clear conscience.

He had further reiterated that he had served the SLFP for a period of 21 years with dedication and time has arrived for the party to stride forward winning the hearts of all supporters and collectively make new strategies to enable the party to defeat the common enemy UNP.
