He was killed for having asked the money given to build the garage - Priyantha Sirisena's wife says

Sirisena who was killed has expressed her ideas.

What she says is that though it is said that the assassin Lakmal was a good friend of Priyantha, she had never even seen him. However, she says that she was aware that her husband had associated him and that he was to go and meet him that last day. She further admits that she knew that Priyantha had spent money and given a loan to build the garage supposed to be belonging to Lakmal and that there was a problem about getting back that money. She says that she suspects that this conflict had arisen over an exchange of words that would have occured when the money was asked.

"On the afternoon of 26th, the day that this unfortunate incident took place, my husband spoke to me over the phone and told me to come to Kaduruwela Town to buy and give clothes for the New Year for the children and me. But I got a little delayed to come. It was during that time that he had gone to meet the friend when he had to face this mishap. I never even dreamed that a fate like this would befall my husband. There were some people who had some small problems with him .... but there wasn't a reason as to commit a crime like this. He used to always say, 'there isn't anybody who can lift a hand against me in Polonnaruwa'. He used to inquire about the children whenever possible ... looked after me also .... a person who came to the assistance of everybody ... would help anybody with a financial problem. He even helped the person who dealt a blow with the axe. My husband has said that his garage was built by his money. Not only that .... to do the business also he has given lakhs of money to Lakmal. I think that it was because he had to repay this money that this crime was committed".
