I have been made a thief -- I can't go to sleep

The Chief Secretary of the Lanka Teachers' Association, Mahinda Jayasinghe lodged a complaint

with the Bribery Commission about a tender-fraud committed when establishing Mahindodaya Laboratories. The accusation had been made against former Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and some others day before yesterday (5).

The former Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena in turn had approached the Bribery Commission yesterday (6) with a load of files and had said that he had been made a thief without rhyme or reason and that these days he said that according to the complaints made, the media is involved in an automatic creation of thieves. He also said that he is unable to sleep because of this and requested that this complaint about bribery be investigated as soon as possible.

On this occasion addressing the media he said that this was the greatest insult he had received in his entire life. In the process what officers of the Bribery Commission informed was that the Commission had received close upon 500 complaints within the last 3 weeks and that the Bribery Commission is not in a position at all to handle such a volume of complaints soon.
