Dhammika Perera prepared to close down casino business because of high tax!
With the decision taken to enforce a special tax of Rs. 1000 million for a casino license from casino dealers across the interim budget presented by the new government sometime back; as a consequence Dhammika Perera considered to be
the wealthiest person in Sri Lanka is reported to leave his casino business together with his team. It is understood that Dhammika Perera who owns 3 casino licences at present, had decided to close up 2 of his gambling centres and had thought of continuing only with the casino centre which is being conducted at present down D.R.Wijewardena Mawatha.Already Australian kingpin Packer too has dropped the idea of opening up the casino centre in Sri Lanka and Ravi Wijeratna, casino centre-owner in Sri Lanka who entertained thoughts of starting those businesses jointly, it is learned, had by now decided to close down one of the two gambling centres owned by him.The special tax of Rs. 1000 million introduced for one casino license from casino businessmen through this budget is expected to be paid before the 15th of this month and an income of Rs. 5 billion is expected by it.
