Wanduramba Police OIC resigns! .... because of Muthuhettigama!
The sabotage carried out recently on the publicity rally for support to the Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena, which rally was organised in Baddegama, Wanduramba was set on fire and this incident was even looked down upon by the President.
Though supporters of Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama who took prominence in this act of arson were taken into police custody, Muthuhettigama had taken steps to take them away by force. Liyanage Kirthisingha of Panangala who functioned as the OIC became a prisoner between the law and politics in the presence of political pressure yesterday decided to hand over his uniform and thus leave the Force. He so resigned from his post because he had been unable to take legal action against this act of arson on the Presidential publicity rally organised by the Wanduramba Opposition and for not leaving room for him to launch any justified action for an inquiry on the suspects.
The police OIC who relinquished his duties expressed his views to the media from his home. What he said was that the influence made on law-abiding police officers through Politics and various other types of influence is similar to an instance where a thief who is arrested for having cut a 'kehel kena' is being charged for his knife and not the thief.
The police officer who served the police force for a period of 18 years said that he had rendered an honest service to the Force and that if in future he gets an opportunity of serving without any influences being made on him .... he would once more join the services.
