A lover who went to police saying his girl committed suicide .... after hitting and killing her with iron club
A 21 year old young man who came to Hanwella Police Station last night at about 10 was sobbing and started relating the story about living together with a girl whom he is to marry, in Ellakanda, Welikanna area in Hanwella and that on that night
he said that she has had a misunderstanding over a certain issue after which she committed suicide by hanging herself.
18 year old Iresha, a pretty girl was seen hanging from a beam in the house.
However, on examining the dead body, it was noticed that though she had been found hanging as said earlier, she had sustained blows to the body.
The police sensed even before the post-mortem that this was not a case of suicide but a death that had occured as a result of assault.
From conversations the police had with neighbours it was fund that the deceased girl, a resident of Kadugoda South had been living in this house together with this boy for sometime and that there had been several arguments between them during that period. As such, the police who developed a suspicion about the youth began to interrogate him continuously.
On further investigations on the incident, the police came to know that the dead girl had been assaulted with an iron club and the petitioner admitted that in order to escape the crime of murder he had hanged her body on a rafter to give the impression that she had committed suicide and subsequently went to police.
As such, the 21 year old youth who was the petitioner in this case was taken into custody over the crime. He happens to be a resident of Ellakanna, Waga area.
The place of the crime has been still provided police protection and the magisterial inquiry is to be held today.
Action has been taken to produce the suspect before the Magistrate's Court, Avissawella.
