Cricket Gold Medal at Asian Games .... to Sri Lanka

The only Gold Medal at the 2014 Asian Games Festival held in South Korea was won for the game of cricket. Victory was achieved in the Final Men's Cricket game played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan by the
former on this occasion.

The Sri Lankan team which won the toss in this 20 -20 game elected to bat first and got 133 runs within 19.1 overs with the loss of all wickets.

Captain Lahiru Thirimanna scored 57 runs while Dinesh Chandimal chipped in with 33 runs. The Afghanistan bowlers left no room for any other batsman to build up a satisfactory total. In reply, the Afghanistan team scored only 65 runs, having lost all their wickets.

As such, Sri Lanka was able to come out victors by 68 runs and it was the only Gold Medal clinched by Sri Lanka in the 2014 Asian Games Festival.
