Uva Elections -- Alliance wins; UNP raises its head
The aggregate of Uva Provincial election results have been released by now. As such, both Badulla and Moneragala Districts have been won by the ruling power, the UPFA. But what is highlighted by the results this time is that when compared to election results during the past there appears to be a public opinion emerging against the government.
When considering from the number of seats gained in the case of Uva; Badulla, Hali Ela and Welimada have been won by the UNP while the rest of the 6 seats have been won by UPFA in Badulla District.
All 3 seats of Moneragala too have been won by the UPFA.
When comparing the past elections, the results clearly indicate that votes cast for the Opposition with UNP taking the leadership, it is on the increase with just a minority difference to be noted.
The distribution of seats according to a proportionate method, the UPFA has secured 19 seats, the UNP 13 seats and 2 seats to the JVP while the Democratic Party have been unable to win any seats.
The preferential votes are still in the process of being counted and its results would be further delayed.
