Suspicion that doctor has given 2 injections ....
Place, where the same syringe is used on every customer
A stock of expired medicines found
It is reported that at the moment the deceased Dr.Priyangi Aluthge had been stricken with allergy while undergoing surgery for beautification, in Bambalapitiya she had been suspended between life and death while there had been no facilities available in the surgery to provide any form of suitable treatment on such an occasion. It is seen that even the ambulance that had been summoned had arrived about half-hour late and when it did arrive, the victim had already passed away, according to latest information.
The suspect-doctor had admitted that the anti-biotic Sefuroxin had been administered to her neck area and that within the space of 5 minutes another injection of a dosage of 2 ml. had been given to her after which the victim had broken into a cough and then felt dizzy.
Dr. U.C.G. Perera, Chief of the Judicial Medical Faculty of the University of Ruhuna expressing his opinion in this respect says that the anti-biotic Sefuroxin is under no circumstances used in the case of beauty treatment. He also said that it should be explained as for what reason a drug of this nature was used on her. he pointed out that Sefuroxin is a modern drug belonging to the Penicillin family and though it can result in an allergic condition to some persons, it could have been administered after a test made on her previously. Though the drug is widely in use, the victim being a doctor herself not knowing beforehand its adverse effects of such a drug is itself a serious problem, he points out.
On court orders, a team comprising of 2 Judicial Medical Officers, an analyst, a consultant in plastic surgery and a specialist anesthesist participated in investigating the surgery where the lady doctor passed away.
The team of government analysts who made investigations at the surgery last morning (14) were able to uncover a stock of expired medicines. The said medicines have been identified as those used in surgery in beauty parlours. As such, the said medicines have been taken into police custody.
According to information so far unravelled, the police say that the negligence on the part of the suspect-doctor has been the cause of the lady doctor's demise.
Investigation activities were conducted from morning hours yesterday till afternoon and the police too assisted in the investigations so conducted.
There had been no facilities at this place for anesthesia or for urgent redress and the investigation officers mentioned that one and the same syringe had been made use of in the case of injections while activities had been carried on without a sense of sanitary security.
All matters of surgery had been performed by this doctor himself while one normal room had been used for this purpose.
Even the nurses who served here were ignorant in almost every aspect and 2 of them were those who had failed their A/Ls and had come to Colombo in search of employment. It was revealed that this doctor had employed the staff for a low fee without giving thought to sanitary security and had carried on this surgery with the system of earning a better profit.
The inquiry officers say that samples of particular medicines/drugs and injections were seized and investigations will be carried on over them.
Until investigation activities are completed, the said beauty surgery is provided with police security.
