Matale undergraduate's murder
Suspects that it is the work of a brother ....
trying to grab property of walauwa
It was on the night when sleeping after a wedding ceremony that 24 year old undergraduate awaiting her results and living in a walauwa in Warapitiya area, Ukuwela, Matale was murdered while sleeping with her mother. The girl's nude dead body was found the following day in a nearby welyaya and it was understood that she had not been raped but killed with a blow the head with a blunt instrument while the blood-stained cloth was found left beside her body.
Apart from this, it was found that somebody had washed both the dead body and the blood-stained cloth as well. It was also reported that the rag had been wrung and squeezed and left behind by the side of her body.
Since the corpse had been washed, police dogs were unable to detect a clue to the murder easily and because of investigations conducted on a large scale on the murder it has been possible to unearth several bits of information in this connection.
Police investigation officers have been able to find a blood-smeared fingerprint on a beam of the house and two blood-stained footmarks on the ground floor and police say that there is suspicion as to whether this murder had been committed over an issue relating to property and money. It was also learned that a brother of the deceased also was questioned.
It has been revealed by neighbours that the deceased was heir to about 60 acres and other assets bestowed on her by her father according to the latter's last will.
The mysterious death of 24 year old Nadeesha Warapitiya who was awaiting her results had been struck by blunt instrument while in the room of her mother and had been made to feel unconscious and the assassin had thrown the blood-stained bed sheet near a paddy field which incidentally was found by a brother while the naked body of the victim was recovered 100 metres away and the police wonder how no relative had observed all this, according to police sources.
Suspicion has arisen whether this young woman had been mysteriously killed by some assailant who had been drunk in this house where a wedding is supposed to have taken place on the same night when the murder had taken place.
Police say that they are receiving secret information from some individuals living in hamlets around the area regarding this mysterious murder.
Further investigations are being carried out by G.D.G.S. Dharmakirthi of the Criminal Investigation Unit together with a team of officers under the instructions of Police Inspector Mr. Wimal Shantha, Matale Police Headquarters.
