University student's dead body found in Elpitiya -- UPDATES 3

Dimasha's Colombo romance .... held secret from mother

What is revealed from latest investigations of the incident where Dimasha Gayanaki who died at the hands of her soldier-lover of the Army while in Elpitiya creating a sensation in the country a few days' ago is that she had left her hometown lover to seek fresh pastures with a boy in Colombo, hiding it from her household.

What the suspect confessed after the murder was that he killed his lover because she told him that she would not stop the affair she began with another lover and thus gave him the 'boot'.

However, after this tragedy, Dimasha's mother said that because Dimasha's lover had objected to Dimasha conducting a tuition class by going to Colombo which was the only thing she was aware of. The mother said that the hometown lover had disliked Dimasha going to Colombo and that he had even threatened to kill Dimasha. But what the mother had thought was that this objection has arisen because of her daughter's tuition class issue.

After this incident, the evidence given by the suspect and Dimasha's mother were observed to be contradictory and the truth revealed from it was that Dimasha had carried on a secret affair in Colombo unknown to her home-people. the suspect had been objecting for sometime about Dimasha coming to Colombo on holidays too for the purpose of teaching the subject of English in association with additional classes during weekends at the place where she conducted at Talawatugoda area, as reported.whatever it is, it was rather later that the suspect had come to know that Dimasha had begun another romance and was coming to Colombo to meet her new boy friend on weekends too. Dimasha had hidden the true facts from her mother about the conflicts which had arisen between the two via telephone calls and these arguments Dimasha had shrugged aside saying, "Aiya is against me going to Colombo to do classes .... he's trying to kill me over that".

Dimasha's mother who is a teacher at Niyagama Poddiwela Maha Vidyalaya described about it in the following manner:"My daughter had a boy friend .... he was in the Army. This love affair had been going on for about 3 years. My daughter's boy friend had come on holiday. When my daughter was at home she got a call from him. The two of them started talking in a bit  of an aggressive manner. I asked my daughter what Tharindu Putha said. 'ane amme he's asking me to stop going to Colombo to teach English ... if I go ... he would do a nice thing to me. Like that he started threatening me', she told me.

After she entered university she started teaching in a tuition class in Talawatugoda on Saturdays and Sundays. Now it has been for about a month that she had been going to teach there. She was paid a fee of Rs. 7,000 a month. 'Ane amme I can't worry you .... this month's boarding fees I paid from the money I got from the tuition class,' she told me. My duwa taught English to children aged 1 - 5. She was in Colombo and it was I who gave her a phone call and asked her come. She came on Friday. A gold article had been pawned at Niyagama Bank and it was pawned in daughter's name. Duwa came home to pay the interest of that gold item and to renew the period.

Her boy friend had objected against her going for English tuition ... she was not frightened about it. 'Amme .... though he asks me to stop going for classes .... that I can never stop. I am teaching innocent children. Even boarding fees I am paying from the money I get from the class no .... Amme ... even though he objects, I am not going to stop doing the classes', she said. Ane I asked her whether she would get into any difficulties. She then replied, 'Amme .... don't be afraid .... can he kill me .... I have enough of friends at the campus'. Her boy friend asked her continuously not to go to Colombo ... threatened her. He spoke also to me over the phone. My daughter is very good at dancing and teaching English. She went to teach English with great desire.

That night till about 12.30 in the night duwa was preparing some English letters to be taken to the class. She was to leave on the bus going to Colombo which leaves at 3.15 . Early on Saturday morning, at about 2 o'clock her boy friend spoke to her. He asked whether she was going to Colombo in the 3.15 bus. Duwa gave a positive reply. It was I who dropped her that morning by going to Niyagama and put her into the bus. Ane .... my duwa had been asked to get down from the bus at Elpitiya town. it was after that that my daughter had been murdered.

Duwa's boy friend may have had a suspicion that she'd get friendly with another boy after she went to campus. that was the reason why he objected to her doing classes on week days in Colombo. Duwa told him, 'for having loved you on the request of parents .... I should be beaten with a Madu valigaya'.

Why oh god my daughter was murdered like this Duwa never even harmed any living being .... helped everybody. It was duwa who stayed back in hospital and cared for grandmother. When there were holidays at the campus, duwa would come to the school where I was teaching and taught the children. Oh god .... with what was a crime like this done to the innocent girl who was at home!"

The final rites of deceased Dimasha Gayanaki was performed yesterday and the lover who is supposed to have committed the murder was a Regular of 4th Gemunu Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army, Tharindu indrajith Atukorala who has been confined to remand.
