Five boys get pinned between two school vans .... one dies

When getting into van after school .... 8 year student dies 
 run over by van!
As a result of an unfortunate vehicle accident which took place last Monday when school was closing .... a student of de Mazenod College in Kandana studying in grade 3 met with death.

At the school car park, 5 students were pressed in between 2 school vans with the vans colliding with each other and because of this accident, 4 other students too faced serious injuries.

This accident has occured yesterday around 1.30 p.m. when the deceased was getting into a school van to go home after school when he was run over by a van that was moving towards him.

At that point the van to which the students were getting into had turned backwards and the students have gone under the van which was coming in front. When this happened though some senior students yelled at the driver and asked him to take the van back, he had been unable to do so. Subsequently, the senior students have pushed the van back and puled the victims out and admitted them to hospital.

As a result of this accident, 8 year old student Tharindu Dilshan Jayakody studying in grade 3 died while 4 other students have been hospitalised at Ragama Teaching Hospital.The deceased student Jayakody Aarachchilage Tharindu Dilhara Jayakody residing down Sadasarana Mawatha, Rilaulla, Kandana was about to be admitted to the ICU of Ragama Hospital for an urgent operation when he passed away. Doctors said that serious damage has ben done to the student's head. Angelo Jason Rodrigo, Thinil Inal, Ion Punuda and Lasith Methusara, all students of grade 3 in the school have been hospitalised having sustained injuries.

As the condition of 2 students is serious, they have been subjected to an urgent operation. Student Angelo Jason who too was a victim of the accident explained the incident as follows: "After school when getting into the school van, another van came in front and collided with our van. At the same time our van got pushed backwards. Though some senior students shouted to take the van back when Tharindu went under the van,it was not reversed. Later, the senior students of the school pushed it back. When          Tharindu was taken to hospital,the time was about 1.45 in the afternoon.

Both the other 2 students who faced this accident are from the Kandana area. The driver of the van who did the damage has been taken into custody by Kandana police. Kandana police are conducting further inquiries.
