Sudden loss of Champaka Ramanayaka's wife
Wife of former Sri Lankan fast bowler and coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Nilanthi Jayasekera passed away suddenly last Friday. She had shown signs of cancer for some time during the past and at the time of her death she was 46 years old.
Nilanthi is the mother of 3 sons and has served as a teacher at Borella Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya in Maths and had also is noted as a Sri Lankan badminton player as well as a coach. She is an Old Girl of Southlands Balika Vidyalaya in Galle.
Two of the sons of Champaka and Nilanthi are already engaged in cricket. Hashen Ramanayaka is attached to the Under 19 Sri Lanka team while Hithesh is playing for the Royal College team.
Final rites of Nilanthi who passed away at an unexpected moment was conducted at Borella on Sunday.
A two-minutes silence had been observed as an honour on behalf of the demise of Champaka's wife by the Sri Lankan team during the Test match presently being played at Lords on their tour of England.
