IGP's statement on Aluthgama incident

Rumour that 'a monk died' in Aluthgama .... a fib
                                 -- Statement by IGP

IGP Mr. N.K. Ilangakoon made a special announcement in relation to the rumours that spread after the restlessness that took place between two parties last evening at Darga Town. What he said, is as follows: "The situation in the area is to a large extent under control by now. We have come to know that a rumour has spread round that a monk has died in the incident. On this occasion I say with great responsibility that no monk has died in this incident. One monk who sustained injury on this occasion is presently taking treatment at Kalutara Nagoda Hospital.

What I once again ask from all of you is not to be misled by false rumours and instead give your support to the police and the Forces on this occasion".

In the meantime the curfew imposed on Aluthgama and Beruwala areas will still be in force, police said.
