Shop robbed .... by wrapping spotlights with cloth ... thinking they were CCTV cameras
These days CCTV cameras have become an obstacle for shop-robbers where their activities are concerned. In order to avoid that obstacle, certain robbers have resorted to destroying them while other have tried to carry on the robbery by closing or wrapping the camera with something.
Recently, a gang of robbers who had tried to rob a textile shop in Ambalantota had been misled and had wrapped a spotlight meant for focusing the light on the textiles in the shop for better attention with pieces of cloth thinking that it was the CCTV camera before they launched their robbery.
This shop actually did not have any CCTV cameras. The robbers had been led astray by the spotlight which looked like the camera.
Several valuable items in the shop have been looted in the robbery.
