Sometime back Mr. J.R.P. Suriyapperuma made a quaint comment about giving daughters in marriage. What hesaid was that before doing so,


parents should make it a point to see that the son-in-law is a physically strong person. Before giving over the daughter,he said that the son-in-law's shirt should be removed and checked whether his biceps muscles weighed over 6 pounds. If it is less than that, the marriage should be cancelled.
"We should bring up our child ... limbs of our children should be strong and tough. Before giving the daughter in marriage the son-in-law should be brought and told, 'remove your shirt putha ...'. If there isn't 6 pounds of muscle on his biceps .... don't give away the daughter".
