for having run over a man, who later died
About 2 weeks before, Chatura Pasan Gunawardena, elder son of Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardena had run over a man in Matara area in his own vehicle. The accident has occured due to negligence while he was not armed with a driving license. Though the 52 year old victim had been receiving treatment at Matara General Hospital for a period of about 2 weeks, he passed away yesterday (Mar 4).
The deceased is a resident of Gandara, Thalalla and is Ahampodi Ranjith by name. He was on his way to Devinuwara Vishnu Kovil when he met with this accident on February 20th.
The Minister-son who was produced in courts after the accident was later released on a personal bond of Rs.2 lakhs. Chaturnaga Pasan Gunawardena had received his education in the States after which he had returned to Sri Lanka. He has had no Sri Lankan driving licence.
Minister Bandula's son whowasonce again a wanted person by the police as a result of the death of the victim though had surrendered to the police, police media spokesman Mr.Ajith Rohana remarked that he would be produced in Matara Magistrate's Court once again today.
