Gem with Buddha stupa found in Ratnapura

Buddhist stupa inside gem

A gem which contains the figure of a stupa inside it was uncovered from Ratnapura.

A figure of a  Buddhist stupa dating as far back as the oldest era which is very rarely seen in gems of various shapes is noted in this particular gem. Experts are of the opinion that the gem in addition to being a unique creation of nature is the only such gem found so far in history.
This gem has been estimated to be one belonging to the Alexandrite variety with a value of 2.45 carat by the quality control division of Colombo Gem and Jewellery Authority and while the gem is valued at a price of about 10 lakhs, it is now not possible to quote a selling price because of the uncommon figure of the stupa seen.
