Tele-actresses after election rejection

What  do actresses say after they were dropped from the list?

                               Couldn't believe! -- Ruwanthi
Can't say anything at all -- Gayesha
Came on TV and messed up -- Ranjan

Two actresses and one female vocalist became the topic of discussion in the country in the recent past for having handed over their nomination papers in view of contesting the Western Province elections. Though the topic faded away after their names were struck off the list, the subject that came up subsequently was whether they are able to become politicians simply because they were popular characters.

These actresses who had the faith until the last moment that they would get the nominations, it is reported that they had even disconnected their phones after their hopes were shattered.
Whatever it is, a weekend newspaper had somehow or other managed to get at these two actresses in order to find out as to what had transpired. Their comments are seen below.

When inquiring from Ruwanthi Mangala, what sh said was,"Even in the morning of the day I signed the nomination papers some people said that I was in the list. It was a mistake in the list of those who applied. Anyway in the evening I came to know that I was not in the list. Actually I feel sorry. A lot of people said that I am a person who must be there. My fans love me. I had a lot of plans.

What I wanted was to get away from my field completely and engage myself in politics. Whatever it is, I love this government even though I didn't get nominations; I will continue with my work of serving the public. Parliamentarian Dumminda Silva who proposed me to enlist myself was sad with the outcome. He said that my name was rejected because a decision was taken this time that actresses will not be enlisted. If even a representative of that nature can't support us ... then who else can? What happened here, I still can't understand".

When questioned from vocalist Ginger, she responded saying that she could not reply right now.

When Gayesha Perera was questioned, this is what she said. "I didn't get nominations. I don't like to talk about it now. When someone answers small tit bits asked by the media ... they go into websites in a different manner. You may have seen that in the past. As such, I like to talk about this in full after these two or three weeks pass".

In the meantime parliamentarian and actor Ranjan Ramanayaka has expressed his ideas this way to another newspaper about actresses coming into politics. "These hopes were shattered because one or two have tried to get into politics without knowing anything about it .... but therefore every actress who came forward for politics should not be found fault with. There is a song which says 'child... only one bug bites ... why should all bugs be killed'. An actress or two goes into politics; appears in front of the television and gives stupid answers. Even the self-respect they have is destroyed.

She tried to get a big big popularity through the television. What happened? Messed up everything! Because of this who will give her an opportunity to come into politics? Can't even say Minister Fowzie's name properly. Not only that .... those 'games' which are displayed on stage shows won't come right on television. There must be a nice way of talking. Not only intelligent people ... even children watch TV. They must be careful about these things. When the question who the pioneer of the SLFP is can't be properly answered ... how can they do a political campaign?

One actress was appointed to parliament and she betrayed the Party and because of the ignorance she displayed on the media. It was one of our sister actresses. Not knowing political history or knowing an atom about it ... how can they face the public? That was one actress.

Among these ignorant actresses, there are knowledgeable actresses indulging in politics. That's very important. A person in every field has the right to ask for the vote. So ... there's nothing wrong in actresses contesting for the vote .... but there must be suitable qualifications for that.
