To create a song ... 3 lakhs
if it becomes a Hit .... 60 lakhs!
Ruwan Hettiarachchi who became an even more popular singer because of the song 'nodeka inna be', expressed his ideas to a weekend newspaper making a statement on music video production and about songs becoming a hit.
What he says is that though it costs Rs. 3 lakhs to produce a normal music video, there are avenues of income to earn 60 lakhs if the song becomes a hit. This is the response he gave to questions asked from him.
*You have several popular songs to your credit ... so you must be having a splendid income from ringing tone.
Ringing tones is a field
of Art which came into the scene of late. Don't you know ... from time to time various methodologies come up in the music trade. As a singer ... he or she hasn't any other way of dependence other than the stage. Neither is the government making any payment. Though whatever number of our songs are broadcast over television, radio or any other electronic media .... we're not even paid a rupee. There's nothing wrong in earning something by making a creation of your own. There should be a value to a creation.
*Aren't singers of your generation earning more from the field of songs than artistes of the earlier generation?
Usually, Rs. 1 lakh is spent on an audio song for a video song at least Rs. 3 lakhs is spent. Apart from that, money is spent on broadcasting on TV channels, for activities such as downloading to YouTube. For my own existence I produce my own songs. If I am a singer .... I should do the creation for my own living. That is the system now. So what happens is spending lakhs and earning lakhs. If artistes of the older generation too had this system, they also would do the same.
If only don't look at our generation with hate or in aggressive manner and create new songs .... they also will be able to earn lakhs of money like our generation.
*How much can you earn from a popular song?
If it really becomes popular ... even something beyond 100 lakhs can be earned. Usually, something like Rs. 50 lakhs or 60 could be earned from one popular song.
