2 1/2 hour interrogation with Prime Minister's son .....
to question about heroin container magnate
The police drugs and narcotic division obtained a statement from Prime Minister's son Mr. Anuradha Jayaratne which ran into 2 1/2 hours with regard to the incident of issuing a letter of permission with the Prime Minister's signature to release a container which contained a stock of heroin to the tune of about Rs. 300 crores.
Mr. Anuradha Jayaratne was summoned by the police narcotic division and he has made a statement after going there. The narcotic bureau has questioned him and recorded statements concerning allegations that the heroin dealers had contributed money to the political campaign of Mr. Anuradha Jayaratne and about a business that he was planning to launch in connivance with those dealers.
In the meantime, a statement has also been recorded by the narcotic division about a photograph showing the Prime Minister and a drug-trafficker standing side by side. The police has questioned several other persons with regard to the incident of obtaining a letter from the Prime Minister to release the container with the stock of heroin. The police say that a member of parliament from the Gampola provincial council too is among them.
