CHOGM deer drown in Diyawanna

The Jana Kala Kendraya of Battaramulla has erected a mini zoo for foreign visitors who are expected to come for the CHOGM. For this purpose, a variety of animals have been brought from the Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala on a temporary basis.

Two deer which had been brought in this manner had strayed; maybe because of change in environment which they unexpectedly had to face and subsequently they had been found fallen into the Diyawanna oya.

On this occasion, they were found in a location where it was difficult for the officers in charge of them to rescue them and the officers have had to seek the help of the Navy.

Accordingly, the Navy officers arrived on the scene yesterday (11) afternoon and rescued the deer. The officers stated that an inquiry would be held to determine as to how the 2 deer fell into the oya.
