Chemical-free eggs for Prince Charles

Eggs which Charles ate .... not from Colombo
had to get down from Bentota

Rosmead Place chefs of Tintergel Hotel where Prince Charles was residing during his short stay in Sri Lanka say that it was not an easy thing to serve meals for him.

'Jim's No. 1', a type of drink with which he has to be served with in the morning is a drink which is not available in Sri Lanka. Several cans of this drink which is supposed to be a mixture of rum, it is reported, have been brought to Sri Lanka from Britain. It was also reported that on most occasions Charles had made it a point not to have lunch unless really hungry on which occasions he had taken vegetables (in boiled form) for which no chemical fertilizer had been used.

In the case of dinner, he had requested eggs only of fowls who had not been fed on food for which chemical ingredients had been mixed. Since it was difficult to secure eggs of this kind in Colombo, Sanath Fernando, Manager of Tintergel Hotel had managed to get such eggs with some difficulty from a farm in Bentota where hens were not fed on such chemicals. As such, it is reported that those eggs had to be transported down from Bentota.

Charles has also shown a liking for cooked Modaa fish mixed with spinach. Modaa is a kind of Mullet and it is supposed to be known also as Koduwa fish. As dessert, Prince Charles had favoured Kartacolombo mangoes.

For tea, he had used the kind with Earle's Grey Tea commercial label. Such tea had been separately brought down for him.

It was reported that two chefs from Britain had arrived on behalf of Prince Charles for the purpose of preparing meals for him while employees of Tintergel Hotel in Rosmead Place had provided them the necessary assistance.
