Dubai Sri Lankan commits suicide by jumping into water tank
Health problems in tap water in Al-Kuwais
Residents in the housing complex of Al-Kail Gate in Al-Kuwais in Dubai were plagued by a number of health issues running into a couple of days and when further investigations were conducted, it was found that the water in the tap line directed to these houses had a foul smell and that even the colour of the water was of a different hue; thus arousing suspicion. After informing the relevant authorities the water tank supplying water to the housing complex was checked with the inspecting officers being taken aback seeing a dead body within this main water-supplying tank. The tank had been built on top of a roof.
The corpse was removed last night, 5th Tuesday by the police. However it was not possible to identify as to who the individual was because the body had dissolved and deformed. In the meantime, the police on comparing data of a Sri Lankan who had been missing for about a week,it was possible to identify the body was that of the missing person.
It was found that the deceased in this instance was a Sri Lankan cook who had been employed at a Russian hotel by the name of Jumeria Beach Residence in Dubai. He was a man of 34 years but his name had not been revealed by the media in that country. It was reported that the deceased had been spending his time as an alcoholic and that his services with the hotel had been terminated over some issue. The police therefore believes that he may have committed suicide because this reason.
Inquiries have revealed that he had climbed over to the place where the tank stood and has jumped from there on purpose because the tank had been located at a safe place and there no possibility of him falling into the tank accidentally.His other Sri Lankan friend who had been sharing and living with him in the same room was able to identify the deceased from the tattoo mark on his back. The two of them had been living in a rented out room in the same housing complex.
The friend who identified the body made the following remarks: "He said that he was doing this job because he had to remit money home to Sri Lanka and that if he failed to do so, his home-people would have to face severe financial problems. Because his friend had lost his job, over an unexpected problem that cropped up a few days before that, he had virtually been stranded and appeared helpless and thoroughly dejected, walking here and there, drunk and not being in a proper frame of mind.
His disappearance had been notified to the police only at a later stage and the dead body had been found only about a week later after he was observed missing.
