I am not for the 10 lakhs package ....
which gives Hit Songs on FM channels
Popular singer Neela Wickramasingha has revealed to a weekend newspaper today expressing her ideas that there is a 10 lakh package operating in Sri Lanka to create a Hit in songs and that it concerns FM channels. These channels which are of no benefit to neither the society nor the Arts operate as a racket of 10 lakhs with the motive of bringing songs that nobody has heard into the No.1 Hit List. She explains that this situation as follows:
"From the last 2 albums I did which included 32 songs, only 1 song ... 'Thun sitha' was broadcast over FM channels. That is the situation today, unfortunately. But the other songs too could have been broadcast. If one follows their system and we were to use their own words, it is the method of creating a Hit. They have a package whereby the song composed and given today is made the Hit on the Chart tomorrow. It is called the 10 lakh package.
What I am talking about is what I know. We also visit the studios. I have seen how when a song is mixed and finished, those from the FM are eagerly waiting to grab it and take it away. The very next day it's the first on the Chart. But nobody has even heard that song.
We have no desire of paying money and getting our song into the Chart ... and we will never fall into that level either. But on the other hand, they have never asked us whether we like their method. But we feel sorry about these things. That is because such a method brings no benefit to neither the society nor the Arts.
