Sanath Jayasuriya, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee who expressed his strong displeasure about the 2 comedy items which gave rise to a sensation at the Dialog Cricket Awards Ceremony held some days ago has called for an immediate inquiry into the matter and has further requested that punishment be meted out to those who are responsible for it, it is reported. Since several issues have emerged from the said comedy items performed which has insulted his personal life, Sanath Jayasuriya has also requested that those behind this incident should be looked into. However, in the process it is understood that some of those at the Cricket Control Board has expressed their deepest apologies to Sanath Jayasuriya.
However, according to reliable sources it is said that Sanath Jayasuriya has not been satisfied with the response he had received.
As such, Jayasuriya has once again informed that until a fair investigation into this issue is carried out, he would keep up with the fight. It is understood that Jayasuriya's contention had been that he never expected that this form of defamatory responses at an award ceremony for which a sum of Rs. 100 likhs had been spent and that he would under no circumstances approve issues brought forward to sling mud at him other than about any references to the game of cricket or selection matters.
While a finger had been pointed at the Sales division of the Sri Lanka Cricket Association and the tournament organisation committee by both Jayasuriya and other related persons, it is said that a complaint in this respect had been sent also to the Honble. President of Sri Lanka. Incidentally, the reason why this items of comedy was subjected to criticism was that certain cricket players were offended and old issues were once again brought forward during the performance.
During the 'Puswedilla' item, Lasith Malinga's popular joke "maawa dekala nedda? Yanawa yanna manussayo" was subjected to humour while Sanath Jayasuriya going to play cricket even after reaching 40 years was similarly made fun of. In the same way, fun was made of the mistakenly-uttered phrase of Sanath Jayasuriya, "pas coming out" while further humour was added with a gesture because he had gone to India and learned a type of dance.
It was also said that during demonstration of comedy items, the point that cricket presidents need not ask for votes and that they are successful in having their names recorded in the election forms.
At this point it was mentioned elsewhere about the Minister's son who had tried to open the door of an aeroplane in the recent past. Though some members of the audience happen to criticise that the words used in the comedy item was flung at cricket authorities and the players as well, most members of the audience dismissed it as a part of the comedy brought forward to make the audience break into a laughter.
It was reported that Show Town Entertainments who organised the award ceremony had not planned to bring Sunil Perera or the 'Puswedilla' item but that it happened as a request of the officials of the Cricket Control Board.
It is also reported that a female officer who had been subjected to the anger of the officials had been at the back of all this.
