Because of Indonesian Muslim protests ....
Miss World Beauty Queens have had to wear sarongs over bikinis!
The 2013 World Beauty Queen contest has commenced amidst protests from last week. Indonesia which is a Muslim country was chosen this time for this event, and as a result, the organisers have had to face a number of difficulties. The reason for this was that they had to encounter protests based on the Islamic religio-cultural rules and regulations.
What Indonesian protestors told the organisers was to fold up and go away. They point out that wearing bikinis on the beach and frolicking about is not suitable for their country. In order to consent to the conditions laid out, the organisers have decided to change the outlook for the round in the contest where parading in bikinis was concerned. As such conditions were laid out to the contestants, they were to wear sarongs over bikinis. The round in bikinis is to be held in the forthcoming week.
Already contestants from 131 countries including Sri Lanka have arrived in Indonesia and the semi-finals in this competition is to be held in the most charming group of islands of Bali in Indonesia amidst strict protection.
The final round is scheduled to be held on September 28th. Because of protests the organisers have had to change the parade of bikinis and cancel the programme of contestants visiting and sightseeing places where Muslims are seen in the majority such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Surabaya.
Prior to this, though this competition was held in a number of countries around the world, the organisers mentioned that they werte not called upon to face such protests. After Olympic Games, Miss World Contest is considered as the next biggest event which has a large participation. It is Iresha Asanki from Moratuwa who has represented Sri Lanka for the contest.
