The madness which suddenly gripped Mr.Mervyn
It is reported that Mervyn who got into difficulties in the past because of his mouth, though attended Cabinet meetings in the past period had been supposed to have not voiced his opinion much.
It was occasionally that Mervyn presented a paper to the Cabinet. Because of a paper presented to the Cabinet last week, it made the Ministers break into a laugh. The President who saw that a paper was presented to the Cabinet, took it into his hands and said,"Ah ... Mervyn also has presented a paper after some time today". Mervyn's paper was a nice one. What he had requested with that paper was that the film 'Matha' by Buddhi Kirthisena which was created based on the recent war should be taken from place to place around the country and shown with his participation.
"Sir, this film 'Matha' is a distinguished film. It must be taken round the country and shown. That is why I ask permission for this to be done through my Ministry". On hearing this, the President smilingly had said that it was a good idea. "I give you permission to show this film around the country .. but wherever you show this film ... don't go to make speeches in those places of course". All the ministers had roared with laughter at what the President said and then mervyn had quipped, "No ... I'm not going to say anything now ... Sir, you told me to keep my mouth shut no ... so I respect your word and will keep my mouth shut". The President replied and said, "No ... because you come and tell me everyday that no work is done in my Ministry. Now you've got a chance to go round the country. Normally only a few ministers got a chance like this. But I'm telling you Mervyn once again ... no problem in going round the country ... but don't get ready to make speeches. Don't make such speeches and come to me!" With those words of the President all members of the Cabinet had broken into laughter.
