Avurudu Festival of Veddas choosing winners of Longest Hoot- Best Beard
The Kona Mangalya of the New Year Festival of the aborigines of Dambana was held day-before-yesterday at Kotabakiniya with a number of games indigenous to them.
There were a number of events which were seen at the Festival which included, the longest hoot, aborigine with the longest beard, picking paddy seeds, the best 'tic mereema', climbing the tree in the shortest time, lighting a fire with a stone, 'bambara kepeema', laying a trap, the tussle of bears, scraping of coconuts with a stick, the best hunting couple, 'gal dunnen videema', shooting with the bow and arrow, fancy dress contest of the aborigines, lullabies, the best ancestral songs and 'kamba edeema'.
