DEAF STUDENT'S DANCE IN FRONT OF THE PRESIDENT

Deaf student's dance which mystified the President

     The President's attention was particularly drawn towards a dance performed by a deaf student at a ceremony where appointment letters were handed over to teachers of the Science Faculty held at Temple Trees yesterday.Though the girl was able to perform the dance, she did not possess the ability to hear the background music. She performed her dance by keeping an eye on her teacher.

     Shanika Kumari of Kegalla St.Joseph's College studying in a special education unit there is totally deaf.

     After the performance Shanika and her teacher met the President in his office. He took steps to affiliate a special teacher to that school for speech-training.
