She was tortured by being pricked with wirenetting, hot water poured, 'imprisoned' and sent to Sri Lanka only when she fainted
It was on 29th January that 29 year old Indrani Kumari from Nagollagama had left the island to Saudi Arabia as a housemaid.
However, because of the cruel treatment of members of the household she had to return home empty-handed with pieces of wirenetting pricked into her body with her hand burnt. Indrani had left to work in Saudi Arabia through a private agency in Kurunegala. The torture she underwent is described by her as follows:
I was called into a room and some wirenetting pieces were brought and then my hand was pricked to pierce with pieces of that wirenetting. Then I was threatened not to shout and hot water was poured on my hand. After that both my hands were tied behind and a piece of that wire was pierced into one of my legs. I was imprisoned in the room for 5 days. I was starving ... I was starving for 2 days. On the 3rd and 4th days I managed to pick up some leftover rice from the dustbin. After I was there for 5 days, because I collapsed, they showed me my injuries and called Sri Lanka. Later, someone from the agency took me. But till I arrived in Sri Lanka I didn't know".
Since she returned to Sri Lanka on the 13th, she had been undergoing treatment at the Kurunegala Hospital. Though pieces of wire had been removed in that country, it is reported that injuries to that part of the body still remain intact.
