The Diyawanna Oya boat service commences
The boat service aimed at providing pleasure for people to view the beautiful surrounding areas of the Diyawanna Oya commenced the day before yesterday. It was a concept and brain child of the Sri Lanka Navy for the layman to see the Parliament at a closer view as well as the surrounding of the Diyawanna oya. This service is provided from 8 a.m up to 6 p.m.
For a boat ride for student the charge is only Rs 50/-When a crowd of 20 adults make a boat ride a sum of Rs 150/- is charged for a person. A special security jacket worth Rs 2500/-is supplied to each passenger during each boat ride the Navy personnel had provided life savers, divers in addition to a first aid team.
There have been 3 boats that have been manufactured by the Navy internal coastline production project. Each has a 15 horse power engine. It could easily carry 25 passengers.
What is shown in the photograph below is how the first inaugural boat trip commenced on the 6th evening in which the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa travelled. Along with him his deputy Chandima Weerakkody, Minister of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, the Western commandant Rear Admiral Rohan Amerasinghe also participated.
