Mother and daughter have been burnt to death while sleeping owing to a lit mosquito coil
Mosquito coils which are used by us on a daily basis can cause deaths in the event precautions measures are not taken since they are very unsafe, if not carefully used. A story of two deaths was reported from Kuliyapitiya which has been caused by clothes hung in the vicinity having caught fire from a mosquito coil.
37 year old mother and her 8 year old daughter residing in Kuliyapitiya, Pannala Road, Senanigama had died having caught fire through the clothes hung near the coil. Four family members have been sleeping in the same room where the fire has started. The husband has slept with thier one and half year old child whereas the wife has been sleeping with the 8 year old daughter. Mosquito coil has been lit near the clothe rack in order to survive and escape from mosquitoes before they have gone to bed yesterday the 30th. It is believed that the fire has spread from the flame of the coil had caught the clothes. The husband had seen the fire when he has been awoken all of a sudden. By the time he was up, the flame has spread far and wide. He has gone and kept the baby in another room and has run for water to put off the fire.
Even though he has tried putting off fire with water, his daughter and wife have already got burnt. Then he has asked for help from his neighbors but it had been too late to put off the fire and they had died from burns..
Police suspects that the fire has started due to a mosquito coil and they had reported that the whole room had got burnt. Kuliyapitiya Police has started to investigate on the case.
