According to the newspaper advertisement what was required was only a part of liver for a patient to be transplanted in a hospital in India. But via an operation the whole liver and other internal organs too had been removed
It was reported in our website a few days ago about the mysterious death of Inoka Damayanthi a mother of a child an advanced level student. The lady who accompanied her to India was called as ‘Madam’. The purpose of her visit to India was not even made known to her neighbours. After Police investigations a number of other revelations have been unearthed.
The story is like this. She had seen an advertisement in our National newspapers that a part of liver is required to be transplanted to a patient taking treatment at the ‘Grobal’ hospital, in Chennai city in India. The donor the deceased Inoka Damayanthi Wijeratna had telephoned the advertiser and had obtained all required information. He is a resident of Negombo and for anyone who is willing to donate would be paid a sum of Rs 3 lakhs on return to the country. However she had succumbed to death and the reason for her death has been certified by a Dr Gopathi Norasivan as owing to weakness of the organs in her body.
The so called ‘madam’ had telephoned two hours after her operation that she had regained consciousness after two hours and even had consumed a juice after two hours. It was revealed later that they had removed the whole liver instead of a part of it. Nobody could really say what really had happened. After the dead body was brought to katunayake Air Port, the ‘Madam’ who had requested the father of the deceased Inoka to come and receive the body had told there is need to seek legal advice. She will pay any amount of money. Let’s take the body to the undertakers.
Since the relatives felt it was very suspicious had informed the Katunayake Police to investigate. The coffin had been sealed with the body inside it. The Judiciary Medical officer had confirmed that the body was swollen and it appeared that the whole liver and other organs of the body too had been removed during the operation.
The deceased Inoka Damayanthi Wijeratna resident of Malagoda, Mangalagama area in kegalle was 36 years old a mother of one child an Advanced level student at Kegalle Balika Vidyalaya. She was known to her family members and the neighbours as ‘Sangeetha’. The newspaper advertisement had appeared on the 7th November for which she has responded by giving a telephone call and confirmed her willingness. After her departure she had undergone some tests on the November 10tN and between the periods 22 to 28 of November.
This transaction had been confirmed by one Weerakkody Irene De Silva, alias ‘Madam’ the husband of the patient. The affidavit had been certified by an Attorney at law in Yatiyana area in Nittambuwa. However in contrary the members of late Inoka’s family say her signature had been forged.
However the only daughter, Dilshani Sandalekha Rathnasiri of late Inoka’s had this to say.........
“This is not my mother’s signature. There are two witnesses who had signed the affidavit whose names are not disclosed. This is a real crime. My mother spoke to me from the 12th to the 17 daily and told she is keeping fine. I am also looking after ‘Madam’s’ husband who is sick. Other than that we were not informed anything further.”
Inoka had been born on 23rd September 1975 and her correct National identity card number is 757671379.However in her Passport number her National identify card number was stated as 867675235 it is reported. The father of deceased Inoka’s father K.P Wijeratna had disclosed that the manner of her death is very suspicious to him. He had to say this.......
“On the 21st he had received a telephone call asking whether I am Inoka’s father. I told yes. Inoka is known by this name only to the family members and the neighbours as ‘Sangeetha’.I was questioned whether Inoka went to India. I said yes .I was told that she had died in India and to come to the Katunayake airport the following morning at 5 A.M. to receive her body. I told to the person who called not to tell lies. The caller had said no it is true. As he could not believe it he had gone to the Kegalle Police station to lodge a complaint. The Police had asked against whom are you making the complaint?.The police had instructed him to proceed to Katunayake Police Station and give the number of the person who called and they would commence investigations.
The person who called was from Negombo from Kularatna Mawatha. I told that I do not know them. It is definitely a racket. It was one Wijesuriya living there. I am not known to any of them.
When I went to the Katunayake Air Port I was received by them. The so called ‘Madam’ wanted me to take to body to the undertakers and told she will spend any amount of money and will give sufficient money to my daughter to look after her.
The post mortem was carried out by the Judiciary Medical Officer who confirmed that her entire liver had been removed including other organs as well. The body was swollen and according to him the death had occurred a few days back. I had more suspicion after the post mortem”.
The deceased Inloka Damayanthi Wijesuriya was buried on the 26th at the Palpana burial grounds. The Police are conducting investigations.
