GEETHA KUMARASINGHE JUMPS OFF THE STAGE

Thinking it is going to be the end of the world the film actress and chief ‘Organiser’ of the Bentara Elpitiya of the SLFP Geetha Akka had jumped off the stage while she went to witness an annual ‘Dalada’ Bentota  Perahera

The other day in Bentota  an usual incident had occurred to film actress Geetha Kumarasinghe. The stage on which she was seated had tilted and she had been forced to jump off. The incident is reported in this manner....
At the Galpatha Maha Viharaya in Bentota an annual historical ‘Dalada’ Perahera is held. For this event a number of Pradeshiya Council members were invited including the Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal Silva, the Chief Organiser of the Bentota/Elpitiya Sri Lanka Freedom Party film actress Geetha Kumarasinghe and other council members were also extended invitations.
As there was inclement weather and floods most of the special invitees could not attend as there was also a threat of rain. As film actress Geetha Kumarasinghe was living in the neighbourhood she had no difficulty in accepting the invitation and to come to watch this annual historical ‘Perahera’. Among those absent were the Chief Minister and a few members of the Pradeshiya Sabha. The Chairman of the Bentara Pradeshiya Sabha , Gayan Sirimanne was able to be present.
That particular day film actress Geetha Kumarasinghe had got on the stage had sat on a comfortable chair .She had been having friendly conversations with other invitees. As there were heavy rains and the talk was on about the ‘Worlds end’ several had suspected that something might happen.
With the rain the stage had got started to get tilted gradually to one side. Geetha Kumarasinghe having the word’s end in her mind thought that this would have been owing to a small earthquake, She had really thought it was an earthquake had started to scream. Those around her came running towards her .Out of those on the stage 12 had jumped out and so did Geetha owing to fear. She was not hurt. The Perahera too did not take place owing to the rain and it is reported that it was postponed for the following day.
