GIRL TAKES BACK THE COBRA

“I fought so much as I was adamant to get back my cobra ‘gem’” says the cobra dancing girl after getting my cobra back.”

The Kollupitiya Police had taken Nirosha Wimalaratna alias ‘Dilani’ into custody from the Cleopatra Night Club where she was employed as a night club dancer when a tip off was given that she was keeping with her a cobra. This action was taken in terms of ‘Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act’. This had occurred about three months back.
She proved in courts that the venomous tusk of the cobra had been removed and the cobra was hence a harmless reptile. When her case was taken up, very much to her disappointment, the Magistrate ordered the cobra to be handed over to the Dehiwala Zoological gardens. Since then she has had several sleepless nights and was very worried as the ‘cobra’ was a part of her life for some time since she found the cobra from the Dodamwila ‘devale’ sometime
back.
As she was so attached to the cobra her intention was somehow to get her cobra back through the court of law. She had retained lawyers and had filed against the previous verdict in order to get her cobra back as there was no life for without the cobra. When the hearing in this case was heard the Fort Magistrate Kanishaka Wijeratna had given an order in her favour of  Nirosha Wimalaratna to allow her to take possession of the cobra from the Zoological gardens in Dehiwala, by signing a bond to the value of Rs 50,000/-
She had gone to the Zoological gardens along with her associates with the court order and claimed her cobra. The cobra ‘gem’ she names the cobra had identified her in front of a large number of onlookers. The cobra was very close to her life and as a result it was a great for her to get the cobra back.
She was charged in accordance to the Cruelty to Animals Act. But she was allowed to take possession of the cobra under the condition that the cobra would be well looked after. The cobra too loved Nirosha as she loved the cobra and the two could not be separated easily. She had quipped that without the cobra she had suffered mentally and has had several sleepless nights. Before taking possession of the cobra Nirosha had very carefully scrutinised the cobra.
This story is somewhat very amazing and questionable to many while for some others it is a matter to laugh. She was subjected for an examination by a psychiatric, who did not reveal anything unusual in her. It was also proved that there had not been any sexual attachments either.
She intends to go with her cobra after the 10th to visit the Dodamvila ‘Devale’ to see the mother of the cobra.
