Supreme Sat is a Chinese Communication Satellite with the Sri Lankan Flag on it
-M.P Tissa Attanayake
The Communication Satellite that was launched from China yesterday was severely criticised by the Member of Parliament and General Secretary of the United National Party Tissa Attanayake. He emphasised that it is a just a Chinese Communication satellite with the Sri Lankan flag on it. The Sri Lankan investment made by the corporate company is all in vain. The Chinese has taken advantage for their purposes and usefulness. It had been only wastage of a colossal sun of money. It was however emphasised that this satellite launch had been collaboration between Sri Lanka and China. It was revealed that this joint collaboration had been done just for the interest of one individual.
“What had been done was just one change to a Chinese satellite. This particular had been made in China and had been kept aside. Our government had sold our space area to China. This is a great danger as China could find all details and finer points about Sri Lanka via this communication satellite. It was however told that this was Sri Lanka’s first communication satellite and the World’s 45th such satellite.
However when the communication satellite was launched several conflicts had arisen. We have sufficient doubts that this satellite had been launched contrary to the manner ofS launching of a normal satellite. The Chairman of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Anusha Pelpola had confessed that he had not been enlightened about this launch by those involved. It had been a matter that had been finalised by the two corporate companies who had invested and had been involved in the launch.
For this project Sri Lanka had borrowed a sum of US dollars 320 million as a loan. Another US dollars 40 million had been borrowed for the construction of a monitoring communication tower at Pallekelle. It has to be questioned what connections has the government has with these two companies. This has to be disclosed by the Government. In this regard the Government, the Defence Ministry and the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the connections with China with regard to the launch of the Satellite SAT had not been made known.
Recently the Supreme Court has made an order that permission has to be sought when loans are obtained from foreign countries. These have to be brought to the notice of the Parliament. By taking such loans are we going to mortgage our future children to China? Is it a satellite made in our own country? It was only our flag that was made to be displayed on the communication satellite launched. This mysterious story has to be explained to the general public by the government."
