In order to bail out Dharmasiri and Raju
How did Mithila and Thushara kill Pushpa and Premawathie?
“I was aroused before the murder by showing me blue films”
-Siripala, the suspect confesses

It had been confirmed that Dharmasiri who had been a member of the Pradeshiya Sabha had been the master mind behind the murders that took place at Kotakethana, Kahawatta. Dharmasiri and his brother Raju had been arrested for the dual murder of Kavindya and her mother in order to hide a case regarding illegal drug dealing. Their brothers, Mithila and Thushara had been used to commit the other two inhuman murders of Premawathie(65 years) and Pushpakumari(32 years).
Those two have been murdered and raped with the intention of misleading the police by showing that there is a mysterious trend of dual murders in Kahawatta.
It was reported that they have been killed on the 18th of July and the residents have come running to stop the fire at their house. Siripala had been taking the initiative in trying to stop the fire and the police had been after him as they have suspected him from the very beginning. Yet, he had been trying to hide his involvement by disguising himself. Later, in the inquiries, he had mentioned about Nilantha whom he suspects as he had been angry with Pushpakumari. Then, it was found that Nilantha’s story was a fake one cooked up by Siripala. Ultimately, he had confessed the truth as below:
“Member of the Pradehiya Sabha Dharmasiri and his brother Raju gave me the order to kill the mother and the daughter. We were asked to do that so it will make them easier to get bail for them. They have two bothers called Milthila and Thushara, and they are the ones who made this plan. When theyhave been looking for someone to get into Premawathie akka’s house, Namal malli had told about me. They have chosen me as I have been working for them to clean up their garden and all. Namal malli is painting vehicles.
He had been told that they will pay him a lack for this contract. Namal called me to visit him to talk further on this job. They didn’t tell me anything at first. The day before they planned the murder, they showed me blue films. They aroused my feelings saying that I can do anything I want with Pushpa. They told me that they would pay me ten thousand rupees for this job and I agreed.
On the next day, I visited Premawathie akka and cleaned their garden. We planned to kill them around 12 in the midnight. Thushara and Mithila were drunk and they visited our house. It was around 12.30 in the midnight. Namal had a bottle of kerosene in his hand. Namal asked me for my knife and he wore gloves.
I was asked to go to Premawathie akka’s house. We reached their house at about 12.40. We kept two people n the way as spies. I knocked at the door and told her:
“Akka, my wife is a bit sick, can I get the money you owe me for working in the morning.”
Premawathie akka opened the door and I suddenly knocked her down. She fell into the ground fainted. Pushpa came running to the noise and Thushara hit her head with the knife. She fell into the ground and after a while she tried to get up again. Thushara hit her again and the fingers in her hand were cut off. Afterwards, we raped both of them…..
We dragged the bodied into a room. It was bleeding from Pushpa’s head and the whole room was filled with blood. We tried to stop bleeding by keeping clothed on her head. Both of them were dead by then. Then, we put clothes and a mattress on their bodies and poured kerosene on top of it and burnt them. When the fire started we made a quick escape. We waited for the residents to gather around and we too came back….”
This incident took place on the 18th of July. By the time, the villagers gathered, the bodies have been burnt. Pushpa Kumari was unmarried. She had been working at a Jewelry shop in Kahawatta. She has had two brothers and a sister and all of them had been married.
Premawathie had been a widow and had been living with her unmarried daughter. They have been living in their residence in a coconut land which had been about an acre. She had been the owner of some paddy fields as well. After committing these inhuman murders, Mithila and Thushara had been residing in the village as if nothing has happened.
Amidst all these, the police was successful in catching the real murderers of these murders. It had been reported that the villagers had been driven mad by this news and they have been attacking the residences of these murderers. Thus, police security had been given on a 24 hours basis to the village.
