Young SLPL cricketer and his friend succumb to death after smoking ‘Ganja’and drinking Corex ‘D’ syrup while watching an ICC T 20 World Cup match on Television:
It was reported on last Poya day on Saturday a group of six youngsters had gathered at one friend’s residence to watch the T 20 match between the Sri Lanka and the West Indies a D/N encounter.
One friend’s mother had gone on night duty to hospital and that house was chosen as an ideal place to watch the match on TV while having liquor and smoking ‘ganja’ as the place they thought was ideal as there would not have any hindrance.
Two of them had succumbed to death after smoking and inhaling ‘Ganja’ and having consumed Corex ‘D’ syrup over it. One who died is a cricketer, spin bowler of promise, who had represented the Wyamba team in the recently concluded SLPL T 20 tournament. He was selected owing to his performances in the premier League inter club tournament. The deceased cricketer is 27 year old Rahitha Wimaladharma while his colleague is one Chamoda Muthumala. Six friends had arranged to watch the T 20 match between Sri Lanka and the West Indies and it was a D/n encounter. They had arranged to enjoy watching the match by consuming liquor, smoking ‘Ganja’ and consuming Corex ‘D’ syrup.
The group of six friends had been enjoying the match on Television, while smoking ‘Ganja’ and consuming Cored ‘D’ syrup. While the cricket match was been telecast two friends had fallen asleep. As they were fast asleep they had be asked to sleep in a bedroom. The other four had watched the match on TV.
At around 2.30 a.m the rest of the friends had gone to night boutique to bring dinner. The friend who was living close by had been taken in a three wheeler to his home. He had been in deep sleep when he was dropped at home. In the morning both had been in deep sleep and not had got up. Both were taken to hospital and they were found to have died before admission to hospital.
Rakitha Wimaladharma is the only child in the family is a resident of Kaduwela,Korathota North, while Chamoda is a resident of Wellampitiya. Rakitha it is learnt had planned to tour Ireland to play cricket and was to get married at the end of the year. It is learnt from the Police that the parents of both boys’ have insisted to have post mortems into their unexpected deaths.
