“ I thought that Malaka-Rehan assaulted me seen newspapers articles”
-MAJOR
The other day the topic that was spoken vividly was about the assault on an Army Major at the JAIC Hilton hotel. The latest news about this incident is that both parties have been summoned to courts today.
With regard to the submission of an affidavit via a motion to courts by the Major, Magistrate had questioned the Lawyer of the Major as to why it was made.
“At the moment when the incident took place although Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeyratne had been near the scene they had not assaulted him. The gold necklace had not been grabbed by them. It had been at home in safe custody.”
Then why this was not stated earlier, the Magistrate had questioned?
“My Lord at the time the plaintiff had been in a state of shock. While he was admitted and was in hospital he had seen Malaka’s and Rehan’s photographs in the newspapers. Then only he had thought that they had assaulted him.
Major also had confessed that regarding the affidavit he will seek advice from the Attorney General.”
Regarding the incident at the JAIC Hilton hotel there were no talks regarding the details obtained via CCTV cameras spoken in courts.
At the last session Malaka and Rehan both were critically ill and had submitted medical certificates. Hence instead of they been remanded had been admitted to the Prison hospital, medical ward.
Although they were remanded until the 24th owing to the affidavit submitted via a motion the case is to be heard today the 21st.However according to Law sources it is learnt that Malaka and Rehan are likely to be released today.
It is true that the Major was assaulted. It is also true that he was critically injured. To withdraw the allegation it is his personal matter. Then who assaulted the major and grabbed his weapon? Will there be an investigation into it? For these questions there had been no proper answers.
Did the Major give up the case owing to personal reasons? The letter published could be read from HERE:
