MALAKA RELEASED ON BAIL

Minister’s son and Rehan Wijeyratne released on Rs 2 million bails:

Magistrate orders the Police to probe into Major’s contradicting stories:

 Today when the JAIC Hilton hotel case was taken up for hearing. Both Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeyratne were released on bail of Rs one million each.
However the Army Intelligence officer, Major Chanadana Pradeep Surasena was cautioned for making contradicting statements. If it is proved the Magistrate would take stern action against the major. The case is to be taken up for hearing again on the 24th of this month, i.e on coming Monday. The Police was advised and ordered to do a complete probe into this matter and submit a report as to why the Major two contradicting stories.
Once he complained that he was assaulted and his pistol was grabbed and later he says the two suspects did not assault him and grabbed his pistol. Then later he had submitted an affidavit and through a motion had informed the Courts that he was not assaulted by the suspects and his pistol was not grabbed by them. In brief that such an incident did not take place.
The Major was present in courts today and the Magistrate asked him several questions:
Magistrate: where are you attached to:
Major: To the Army Intelligence Unit, Southern region:
Magistrate: Did you serve in other places:
Major: Yes. In Trincomalee and Jaffna during the war days:
Magistrate: You had stated initially that the suspects assaulted you:
Major: Yes:
Magistrate: Then why did you say later that you were not assaulted by the suspects:
Major: Owing to shock:
Magistrate: If you were brave enough to fight in a battlefield, what is the reason you cannot face a situation like this:
Major: As I am suffering from High Blood Pressure:
Magistrate had told the Police to submit a report as to why contradicting statements were made by the Major. It appears that according to the Magistrate that the Major is not interested in this case and he appears to dislike such happenings.
The next hearing would be on next Monday the 24th.
