THARJINI WITH MANY HIGHS IN HER LIFE

I can’t travel in buses; my head hits the roof of the bus:

I can’t walk in the streets, boys make jokes but I won life because of my height:

Tharjini who rules the netball court just like Murali who ruled the cricket grounds:

Like Murali, Tharjini Sivalingam too is a Tamil. Murali used to take wickets after wickets. Today, Tharjini is winning goal after goal. Tharjini who is six feet ten inches is a threat to her opposition team and helps to keep Sri Lankan team ahead.
When she gets the net ball into her custody, her opposition gets inactive and as she gets to score a goal without any threat. 90% of the points are scored by the Sri Lankan team is owing to her sole efforts for we as Sri Lankans are proud and  thankful to her.
In the past Muralidharan dominated the bowling department with his bowling feats with the ‘doosra’ in particular with his magic spells he more often than not he delivered in constantly in many spells in grounds in Sri Lanka and abroad which helped Sri Lanka to win so many Test and One Day Internationals which brought laurels to Sri Lanka and our team became a threat to all teams in other countries which helped to win many of the matches. Today, Tharjini has become the best sportswomen in Sri Lanka and thus Sri Lankan netball is run more or less by her immaculate performances.
Tharjini has become a threat to all the Asian teams. When Sri Lanka got the won the Asian Final match and achieved the victory in 2009, shooting 74 goals out of 79 were made by Tharjini.
Asian netball games 2012 was held yesterday and Singapore won the match by one goal in a nail biting contest. The final score was 48-47 making Sri Lanka the first runner up scoring almost all the goals.
Tharjini is an asset to the netball team. That’s not only due to her captainship but due to her talents. Her talents too are tall like her. Thus, she is definitely the backbone of Sri Lankan netball team.
Tharjini is the fifth of a family of six children and she is born in PunnalaiKattuvan in Jaffna. She entered the Eastern University for her higher education. She had read for a degree in Tamil. She intends becoming a lecturer in Tamil. Her talent for netball had been encouraged in the university. Her ambition was to be a lecturer in Tamil and that had been overcome due to her talents in netball and her gift to be so tall had helped her to pursue netball. Afterwards, the authorities have taken steps to bring her down to Colombo for practices.
Tharjini who is very satisfied about her present tells that her childhood had been spent amongst a lot of obstacles and problems.
“Life in Jaffna was very sorrowful. Everyone was questioning about my height. Number of times I was embarrassed by that question is limitless. Most of my family members are very tall. When I was doing me advanced level, I was six feet and two inches. I was the tallest in the school and the Principal was only six feet and one inch tall. I have been made fun of for been very tall. I was boarded at the school hostel. It was very difficult for me to travel by bus as my head hits its roof. It was such a problem to me. But that height helped me to win and gain a place among the society through netball. Now I am very proud of my height.”
Tharjini has not gained a greater height after she was 22 years old. Now she is six feet and ten inches tall. She says that she is very positive about everything. Not only her parents but all the Sri Lankans are proud of her today.
