Courts had fined Dr. Lestor James Peiris for a case filed by a young woman whose back had been bitten by his dog:
Last week a case against the prominent film Director and Producer was filed by the Police after a complaint was received by a young lady who had been bitten by a dog, a Labrador’ type owned by Dr Lestor James Peiris when she was walking along Dickman’s Road after work.
The dog belonging to Dr Lestor James Peiris had been taken for a stroll along the pavement of Dickman’s Road by a servant when this young woman had been bitten on her back causing injuries. She had complained to the police and had take treatment for her injuries. The Police had filed a case against Dr Lestor James Peiris in courts as he was the owner of this Labrador’ dog. She had claimed a sum of Rs 25,000/ to cover the medical expenses she had incurred and had produced medical reports and bills in this regard.
When the case was taken up the servant had appeared on behalf of Dr Lestor James Peiris who had confessed to courts that the dog did not cause her injuries, but the dog had jumped on to her body and only bitten her handbag which she was carrying.
However the court had ordered to pay a fine of Rs 12,500/- instead of the Rs 25,000/- which the young woman had claimed as compensation for her injuries as the version of the servant was incorrect.
