The story in brief is as below:
Asitha Fernando went to Japan in search of a job 22 years ago. There, he had been able to find a permanent job at one of his friend’s office. Along with time, he had been in a relationship with a young Japanese girl which had ended up with the bliss of marriage.
He had been a father in 1997. He and his wife had worked hard for the future of their son and they have slowly opened a restaurant on Nayoga. Proving the luck of the new born, they reached the success day by day. But it didn’t take long for misfortune to overshadow their happiness and success. He wasn’t happy to recall that memory.
“During this time my wife was tied into an illicit relationship. That was with another Sri Lankan. They were caught red handed to me. Both of us started fighting again. one day when I was coming him, my wife’s boy friend stopped my vehicle on my way and attacked me with two Japanese boys. They hit me with base ball bats. I didn’t know how I was hospitalized. I have gained conscious after four months and 26 days later.”
That incident had turned him into a disabled person. He had been brought back to Sri Lanka by his friends. He had been able to walk back after been treated under indigenous Ayurveda medicine for 4 years. Now he is able to organize his speech better than how he was. The most unfortunate event his life is how his wife, his mother who gave birth to him and his brother got a death certificate to him while he has been alive.
By forwarding the death certificate to the Insurance company, they have been able to get his insurance money. He could not continue his story any more. So the rest of the story was a bit disorganized.
“I went back to Japan in 2001 to find details about my wife and my child. They have changed their residence without leaving any evidence. I became very helpless once again as I could not extend my Visa as I was considered to be a dead man. Even though I went back to Japan Embassy in Sri Lanka, they rejected my applications. I have written to the Foreign Service department as well. All of them have been futile attempts. I was contacted by the INTERPOL this May and I was told that I have been legally divorced in 2000. My wife has got a divorce without my knowledge of it. My family and my wife have got together and ruined my life.”
He had already faced the worst things that could happen to a man. He wouldn’t have dreamt even in his wildest dreams that such a fate would come to him when he first went to Japan in search of a job. He also stated that his life is in danger. He who doesn’t have a shelter spends nights in bus stands and sells lotteries for a living.
